COLUMBUS, OH — Columbus police say an attempt to serve an arrest warrant turned into a fast-moving series of events Friday afternoon in northwest Columbus, ending with a 16-year-old suspect in custody. Officers identified the teen as Trejuan Jackson, who had active warrants for aggravated robbery, police said.
The case unfolded near Stowbridge Drive when officers went to the area to serve the warrant. Police said Jackson ran from the house after spotting officers, jumping out a window and taking off on foot. Neighbors reported seeing a male in only underwear jumping fences through the neighborhood as the situation developed.
Home Search And Confrontation
Police later responded to a shooting call around 12:15 p.m. in the same neighborhood, this time at a home on Selbourne Court. When officers arrived, paramedics were already treating the homeowner on the front porch, and detectives began looking into a possible confrontation involving the suspect and the resident.
According to Columbus police, Jackson had broken into the victim’s house and held the person against their will. Investigators said the encounter lasted about an hour before Jackson took the victim’s car keys and tried to leave in a stolen vehicle. Police said the homeowner fired a handgun as Jackson attempted to drive away, which drew officers to the scene.
Pursuit On City Streets
Columbus police said no officers fired their weapons during the incident. Instead, the suspect was tracked down after a brief pursuit that ended in the 1000 block of Olmstead Avenue near South Linden. Crime tape surrounded a GMC pickup truck in the area where Jackson was taken into custody.
Police described the arrest as the end of a chaotic sequence that began with the warrant service and expanded into a neighborhood search. The chase followed the reported break-in and the attempt to escape in the victim’s vehicle. Officers said the vehicle pursuit remained contained to the area before Jackson was apprehended.
Victim Not Injured
Authorities said the victim was unharmed. Police also said Jackson remained in custody after the arrest, and the homeowner was being questioned by detectives as part of the investigation. No additional details were immediately available from Columbus police.
ABC 6 asked for more information, but police said they did not have further details to release. The sequence of events left investigators with a warrant arrest, a reported home invasion, a stolen-vehicle attempt and a separate shooting call to piece together in the same neighborhood.
